A former Roseau Ram has been chosen by the New York Islanders in
the second round of the NHL Entry draft in Ottawa, Ontario. The
Islanders took Aaron Ness with the 40th overall pick in the
second round of the draft on saturday morning.

UND forward T.J. Oshie of Warroad has decided to forego his
final season of college eligibility and has signed a professional
contract with the National Hockey League’s St. Louis Blues... The Blues
drafted Oshie 24th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft... Oshie
played three seasons with the Fighting Sioux, finishing the 2007-08
season with a team-high 45 points in 42 games while leading the team in
assists and tying for the team lead in goals... Oshie was an American
Hockey Coaches Association first team West All-American, first team
All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association forward, and he was also a Top
10 Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist... Oshie is one of just 15 players
in school history to be named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award,
awarded annually to college hockey’s best player... Oshie also earned
all-tournament honors at the WCHA Final Five and NCAA Midwest Region
championship... In his three-year Fighting Sioux career, Oshie had 142
points in 129 games. His 142 points rank 30th all-time in UND history... Oshie helped the Sioux advance to the NCAA Frozen Four in all three of
his seasons at UND.

MINNESOTA INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (MIAC) ANNOUNCED THEIR
2008 MIAC SOFTBALL AWARDS RECENTLY. UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS JUNIOR
INFIELDER MISSY BRUGGEMAN OF GREENBUSH WAS NAMED TO THE 2008 MIAC
ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM. BRUGGEMAN BATTED .400 WITH 10 RBI’S AND 26 RUNS
SCORED. THE TOMMIES ENDED THEIR SEASON WITH A 42-5 RECORD AND A 4-0
LOSS TO WISCONSIN-OSHKOSH IN THE NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT.
Junior forward Kierah Kimbrough of Greenbush was named the
University of North Dakota's 2007-08 female athlete of the year
at UND's annual student-athlete awards banquet. A junior forward
on the basketball team, Kimbrough earned numerous post-season
honors. She led the North Central Conference in field goal
percentage and ranked second in scoring and rebounding. She set
a UND playoff record with 37 points in the NCC semifinals
against Augustana. Kimbrough has also eclipsed the 1,000-point
plateau for her career and ranks 12th on UND's all-time scoring
list.
Male Rookie of the Year Award went to
Joel Schwenzfeier of Hallock, a freshman defensive back on the
football team. Schwenzfeier, stepped into the starting lineup
halfway through the season and helped anchor the NCC's top
defensive unit. He appeared in 12 games and helped lead UND to
its fifth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance.
